Titi is 7th years old!!!

We are celebrating Titi's 7th birthday today! She has been thinking and talking about her birthday for months. She could not wait to turn 7 and the day is finally here.

We did not have a party for her but took her to Disney instead. She had fun. She bought some toys and played with them and she had her face painted and she loved all the attention she got.

This morning I brought cupcakes to her classroom so she could have a mini-celebration with her classmates. She was happy because they said it was her birthday during the school's morning announcements. I left the school for a while and then went back to have lunch with her. We also took her to Target so she could pick a couple of toys. She was so happy all day.

Carlos is a Bear!!

Yes, Carlos is now a Bear in the Cub Scouts. The pack had the end of the year ceremony at the school cafeteria and Carlos got his Wolf patch and he is now in the Bear Den. He was very happy about it. He also got some other patches and awards. The older kids in the pack moved on to become boy scouts and now they belong to another pack. Carlos said he could not wait to be a Boy Scout and he wants to be an Eagle Scout one day. We will see......

We hope Carlos has learned something from the Cub Scouts experience. Don, Titi and I really enjoyed the experience as well. It was fun going camping and doing all kinds of trips and activities with the group. It looks like next year I will be the assistant Den leader and I will have to wear a uniform but I am hoping somebody else will volunteer before that happens!

Rodrigo's Graduation

This morning we went to Rodrigo's High School graduation at the Kravitz Center. It was a beautiful ceremony and I felt very emotional and proud of him. He is a great young man and we know he is going to do many great things in the future.
After the ceremony we went to have breakfast/lunch at a Mexican restaurant. It was good to spend time with the family. Carlos and Titi loved being there.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day! I hope everybody is having a wonderful day.
Carlos and Titi (with the help of dad) prepared a breakfast party for me. It was beautiful. They had decorated cakes at school so we had delicious cake for breakfast. They are now preparing a play with their kooky pens and they will call me when they are ready to perform it for me. I am having a great day!

We are going to Mema and Grandpa's house later in the day to celebrate with them and cousin Beverly who is visiting from New York with her two beautiful babies. We can't wait to meet them.
We donated a Mother's Day basket for a mother in Guatemala in honor of Mema and one in honor of Beverly. Here are the pictures of the families receiving them.

The first one was for a woman named Anastacia. We are helping her with her school expenses. She is studying to become a social worker. One of her daughters, Karina, is in the Mayan Families sponsorship program.

The other one was for Marisol. She lives in a horrible place and two of her children Ruben and Benjamin are also sponsored to go to school.

Don's birthday party

We had wanted to plan a big party for Don and Larry but it was not possible because Laura and Allie have games out of town most of the weekends. I felt strange planning a party just for Don but I really wanted to do something for him. We had the party at Luke and Mimi's and we tried to do it as a surprise. I am sure he knew but he played along. It was hard keeping it as a surprise!

Titi had the idea of having a Grateful Dead party so we planned a hippies party and invited people with very short notice. Lots of people could not come and we missed them but it was still a good party. Don felt funny being by himself and he kept saying he was missing Larry but after a while he enjoyed all the attention. For the first time he was allowed to play Grateful Dead music and dress in tye dye without being criticized so he loved it.

Pictures of April

We had a great time with our friends from the Netherlands, Henny, Gosia, Robert, Patrick and Maaike. They are a very interesting, talented and busy family and we love reading their blog. Maaike seems destined to be famous...

We took them to the Everglades to see the alligators and to look for some lubber grasshoppers. Carlos and Titi had seen them before and wanted to find some more. I do not like those grasshoppers because they can eat certain plants to the ground and once they invade a garden they are very hard to get rid of but it looks like they don't do much damage where we found them.
The kids had a great time picking them up from the grass or the trees and wanted so badly to bring them home and keep them as pets.
It looks like Robert is very close to the alligator but he wasn't. He was standing on a boardwalk.
We also spent some time at the clubhouse. It is so nice there! We should go more often.
